Hontanas to Boadilla del Camino

5/29/19
After a fun night of singing and eating, we headed out into the Meseta again, and again the Camino gods were kind, in fact it was somewhat chilly.
The walk was through the valley below the Meseta Cliffs and along a beautiful tree lined path. Coming around a corner, we suddenly came up on the ruins of San Anton. The pilgrim trail passes right through the arch that separates the church to the monastery. It became famous for being able to cure ST ANTONYS FIRE, a deadly disease brought about by eating bread made with bad corn, turns out a little salt in the dough was the key, or eat wheat bread.

Leaving the ruins, we found our way to the town of Castrojeriz, a stronghold for the Christians against the Arabs, and founded in the 9 th century.
Approaching Castrojeriz, with the town on the left, the church to the right, and ruins of the castle on the hill
,
The path ahead, a long long climb up Alto de Mostelares
A reminder that not everyone makes it up the hill
Me, knackered at the top of the climb

We eventually came to the Chapel of San Nicolas which is close to nothing, and dropped in for a rest as it was starting to get hot by this time

The tiny chapel is still used today to help injured pilgrims, and they can sleep up to 8, but don’t expect any food or hot water
Crossing the Rio Pisuerga into the province of Placentia

Every one smokes in Spain
Our accommodations for the night

Coming into town was a happy moment because I think all out feet were a bit weary, this was maybe the best pilgrim meal we have had all journey so far
Coming into our accommodations no in Boadillo with storks on the tower

A field of Poppies
